About We CARE-4-Paws

We CARE-4-Paws LogoWe CARE-4-Paws reaches across Maryland to Northern Virginia, helping PetSmarts Inc., PetSmart Charities, Last Chance Animal Rescue and Animal Welfare Organizations, individual people, and entire communities by establishing foster homes, special events and adoption programs.

Our Mission:

The mission of We CARE-4-Paws is driven by the simple philosophy that kindness to animals helps build a better world for all of us.

Through the support of PetSmart Inc., PetSmart Charities and through the generous donations of our members and supporters, the work of We CARE-4-Paws can help make a difference.

With the generous hearts and hands of people like you, we can ensure that animals who come into our care will never again be alone, hungry, sick, afraid, or in pain.

What We Do

Our members assist PetSmart Charities and PetSmart Inc. in creating and supporting programs that save lives of homeless pets and promotes healthy relationships between people and pets. Together we are working with Last Chance Animal Rescue and other Animal Welfare Organizations to bring about a time when there will be no more homeless pets. We ensure EVERY animal that comes into our care have a lifelong, loving forever home, we:

  • Welcome and encourage Animal Welfare Organizations to partner with PetSmart Charities and utilize PetSmart in-store donated space, while saving lives of homeless pets;
  • Augment Animal Welfare Organizations’ staff and provide foster homes and teams of volunteers who assist in the care and adoption process;
  • Facilitate adoptions through various in-store programs;
  • Inform Animal Welfare Organizations of the PetSmart Charities Adoption Center Participation Guidelines, Adoption Center Agreement and Adoptions Reward, to include PetSmart Charities Grant Funding Guidelines and Application process;
  • Maintain PetSmarts’ quality of service to their loyal customers;
  • Raise awareness of companion animal welfare issues.
  • Help keep animal welfare organizations financially viable and able to continue their missions.

Our volunteers are an awesome bunch of like-minded folks who provide PetSmart Charities Adoption Center cats daily routine care, host Dog Adoption Events at PetSmart stores and are dedicated and committed to ensuring the safety, welfare, and adoption process is a positive one.

Our dedication extends to include socializing animals, laundering bedding and provide dog/puppy and cat/kitten foster homes. Our goals include but are not limited to the following:

We provide short-term foster program is a great opportunity to save a life without making a long-term commitment.

Our Stay at Home Rescue program helps pets stay in the comfort of their own home while a new home is found for them. This prevents the emotional and physical stress of the pet going through the ordeal of a noisy and confusing animal shelter experience. The program also eliminates the possibility of euthanasia as long as the owners are willing to continue, “fostering” their own pet. In addition, if the pet is already housebroken, keeping the pet in a home environment will promote positive behaviors and keep the pet more adoptable.

Our Pet Photographer takes a great picture of a pet for adoption, which significantly helps a homeless pet find, a loving forever family. Our photographers also focus on the following initiatives: Petfinder pictures of pets for adoption, post adoption pictures for Happy Tail stories on our website and project/activity, special events and fundraiser pictures for our website and local press releases. Our Rescue Writer is essential in saving lives.

Our website is one avenue of communication with the public.

Have a Humane Educator that will be responsible for teaching the next generation, which will make our world a better place, for people and for pets.
